Violet-green
Swallows nest in forested
mountains of the west. They prefer open,
deciduous, or mixed coniferous-deciduous
forests containing ponderosa pine, aspen,
willow and spruce trees. Our Violet-green
Swallow House is also suitable for Tree Swallow, Tufted Titmice, Prothonotary
Warblers, House Finches
& Carolina Wrens.
Optional Slate Squirrel Guard available
to provide extra protection from
squirrels that like to enlarge the
entrance hole and occupy a bird house.
Violet-green Swallow houses should be
placed 9 to 15 feet high on large trees
in semi-open woodlands. In the northern
portion of their range, pair formation
begins in mid-April and breeding begins
in late May. In the southern portion,
breeding begins in early May. |
