Violet-green Swallows nest in forested mountains of the west. They prefer open, deciduous, or mixed coniferous-deciduous forests containing ponderosa pine, aspen, willow and spruce trees. Our Violet-green Swallow House is also suitable for Tree Swallow, Tufted Titmice, Prothonotary Warblers, House Finches & Carolina Wrens. Optional Slate Squirrel Guard available to provide extra protection from squirrels that like to enlarge the entrance hole and occupy a bird house.

Violet-green Swallow houses should be placed 9 to 15 feet high on large trees in semi-open woodlands. In the northern portion of their range, pair formation begins in mid-April and breeding begins in late May. In the southern portion, breeding begins in early May.
